On Oct. 13, the City celebrated the grand opening of the new roundabout at the intersection of 36th Street West and Grandview Drive West. On hand for the festivities were U.P. Mayor Javier Figueroa, Mayor Pro Tem Ed Wood, Council Member Frank Boykin and State Rep. Mari Leavitt, who was instrumental in helping the City secure state funding for the project.
The roundabout, which was funded by a $764,000 grant from the State Transportation Improvement Board, was completed on budget and ahead of schedule. It improves vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian safety in the area by reducing speeds along that stretch of Grandview to allow for easier and safer turns in and out of 35th, 36th and 37th Streets.
