During its Oct. 6 meeting, the U.P. City Council recognized several groups, individuals and businesses for their impact on the community. These included an Indigenous Peoples’ Day Proclamation, with acknowledgement that University Place is located on the ancestral homelands of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Puyallup and Steilacoom Tribes. The council also congratulated Bridgeport Place Assisted Living & Memory Care on its 25th Anniversary.
Two members of the UPPD were also honored for their accomplishments. Deputy Chris Rather is retiring after 31 years of service to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department (including 26 in U.P.), while Deputy Sydney Davis earned three silver medals at the prestigious World Police & Fire Games in Birmingham, Alabama.
City Council meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend or watch them online to learn about what is happening in U.P., to provide public comment and share in congratulating worthy honorees like those mentioned above.
