Committees & Commissions
Community involvement is vital to shaping the future of University Place, and our commissions and committee play a key role in that effort. These volunteer groups, made up of engaged residents, help guide important decisions on topics ranging from public safety and parks to economic growth and long-term planning. By sharing their insights, experience and local perspectives, members help ensure that City policies and priorities reflect the needs and values of those who live and work here. The City is grateful for their time, dedication and commitment to making University Place a stronger, more vibrant community.
The City of University Place has four key commissions and one committee that advise the City Council on vital community matters:
- Economic Development Advisory Commission: A seven-member board that promotes the City’s Economic Development Strategic Action Plan, supports business interests, and helps communicate economic initiatives to the public.
- Finance Committee: Provides oversight on City finances, including budgeting, investments, debt management and real property matters.
- Park Advisory Commission: Composed of seven citizens, this group advises on park-related issues, such as capital projects, land acquisition and park development.
- Planning Commission: A seven-member body that advises on growth management, land use, transportation and long-range planning. It also develops the Comprehensive Plan and recommends updates to zoning and development regulations.
- Public Safety Advisory Commission: Includes seven voting members and non-voting representatives from Police, Fire and Schools. This commission advises on public safety concerns in the community.
