Highlighted Incidents

Incident: Outside Agency Arrest in U.P. – 3800 Bridgeport Way    

On 7/26/23, Seattle Police Department (SPD) arrested two individuals near the Safeway in University Place. The arrestees were compliant and were taken into custody without injury to the arrestees or officers.  SPD monitored the suspects as they made stops in Auburn and Tacoma before visiting the Safeway. SPD’s investigation involved multiple individuals from King County.  Neither suspect had any known connections to University Place.

The call originated at about 10:30 PM and SPD cleared the scene shortly after 11:00 PM. A firearm was recovered, and the suspect’s vehicle was towed.  University Place PD was not involved in the investigation or the arrest. 

Incident: Burglary/Assault – Location: 3300 Greenwood Ave W

Officers responded to a suspicious person who was attempting to gain access to a residence. The unknown person refused to cooperate with responding officers and remained near the front door of the residence. Multiple officers attempted to communicate with the individual. The suspect was with an adult female who was attempting to calm him down. The suspect was taken into custody after he assaulted the adult female. The arrestee was booked into the Pierce County Jail.  

Incident: Armed Robbery – Location: 5700 51st Ave Ct W

A resident contacted two individuals who were taking items from her yard. The items were left outside from a yard sale and were being loaded into the suspect’s vehicle. When confronted, one of the suspects pointed a gun at the victim and told her to back up. The suspects fled prior to the arrival of law enforcement. 

Incident: Commercial Burglary – Location: Chambers Bay Golf Course 

Officers responded to a report of a burglary which occurred overnight. There were no signs of forced entry. The ATM was vandalized, and it is believed some cash was taken from the machine. No other property was damaged/taken during the incident.   

Incident: Commercial Burglary – Location: 6700 19th St W

Officers responded to find a stolen vehicle backed into Smoke N Stuff. The vehicle was used to gain access to the building where a large amount of merchandise was stolen. Suspects fled prior to officers arriving on scene.

Our team is currently running ‘Business Impact Patrols’ and ‘Traffic Enforcement Patrols’. We will continue to run these, Mon-Fri as staffing allows, through the remainder of the year.  

We saw an increase in Motor Vehicle Thefts the last two weeks. Remember to secure your vehicle and call 911 if you see or hear unusual behavior or sounds in your neighborhood. Your neighbors will thank you!
