Christmas Tree Lighting

Invite your family and neighbors to come out for a very special evening and community event on Friday, Dec. 7 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. in Market Square for the lighting of the University Place Christmas Tree. This continues our tradition in U.P., with the annual Christmas tree lighting festivities beginning after dark amid the holiday lights of Market Square.

U.P. Fall Clean-UP & Canned Food Drive

The City of University Place, in conjunction with University Place Refuse and Recycling, is offering you an opportunity to dispose of and/or recycle some unwanted items and yard waste for FREE!

When:
Residents SOUTH of 40th St W. Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Clean-Up Rules:
LIMIT: 1 load per household for all items EXCEPT for yard waste only loads

Make a Difference Day

Residents of University Place are invited to join millions of Americans across the country on Saturday, Oct. 27 for annual Make A Difference Day activities that are designed to make their communities better, cleaner, safer and more welcoming places.

University Place invites residents to gather at Kobayashi Park (6420 Chambers Creek Rd. W.) to assist with ivy removal, trail clean up, and painting of the picnic shelter. Bring your own tools and gardening gloves and prepare to get dirty and have fun.

Moonlight Movie in the Park

One of U.P.’s most popular summer traditions will return to Cirque Park on Saturday, Aug. 4 when Moonlight Movie in the Park will feature Disney’s “Coco.” This Academy Award-winning film tells the story of Miguel, a young boy who dreams of following in the musical footsteps of his idol Ernesto de la Cruz.

The Mission of Dance Theatre Northwest (DTNW) is to provide quality, ballet-based, American contemporary and classical dance performance and ballet-based dance education, and to offer communities in the Pacific Northwest the opportunity to experience dance as an important art form.

Dance Theatre Northwest offers a variety of classes for youth and adults.

Parks Appreciation Day

We're celebrating Earth Day, Arbor Day, National Parks Week and your local parks in one fun event. It will be the 17th year of the event.

It's gratifying to know you are part of a major county-wide effort with nearly 2,000 other people working in their local parks at the same time.

What is it?

Insect Class/Sticky Apple Hanging at the Barn

Learn how to deal with the dreaded apple maggot and other pesky insects at a FREE class taught by Master Gardener and Western Cascade Fruit Society member Bill Horn. The class is scheduled from 9–10 a.m. in the orchard barn, located at 3920 Grandview Drive West in University Place.

Class participants will receive a free “sticky” apple to take home for their own apple trees. Please pre-register at apples@curranappleorchard.com.

Pruning Party

Trained volunteers and Master Gardeners are available to assist people at pruning parties held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

People are welcome to prune at their convenience AFTER receiving appropriate instructions. Recommended pruning tools include work gloves, hand pruners, loppers and hand saws. Some tools available on site. Please carry all trimmings to the dumpsters.

Informational signage regarding proper pruning techniques and tools are also located near the Curran Barn as well as by the Espalier Fence off the Grandview Drive entrance into the park.
