Meet the Chief

City Police Chief: Mike Blair

Thank you for taking the time to view the website for the City of University Place and the Police Department. My name is Mike Blair and I am greatly honored to be serving as the Chief of Police.

I grew up in Tacoma, Washington and obtained my Bachelor of Arts Degree from Washington State University in 1993. I have been a Deputy of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department for 21 years. I was promoted to Sergeant in 2007 and have held patrol supervisory positions since then at our South Hill Precinct and in the University Place contract city. I have previously supervised our Sheriff’s K-9 Unit and currently supervise our Peer Support Unit.

The City of University Place was the first contract partner for Pierce County. My Sheriff, Paul Pastor, views contract services as vital to the future of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. University Place continues to be a model for contract servicing. The City and the County have embraced this partnership by working together to build a successful relationship – a premiere relationship that has been in place for 16 years. The officers who serve in this community feel embraced by the University Place citizens they serve. It is no wonder that when officers come here, they never want to leave.

Under my leadership, you can expect a high level response to crime. From our School Resource Officer, to our Investigator and our patrol squad, a great amount of experience is brought to the table each day. Our squad has been described as one of the best work stations in the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. Our problem oriented policing model, built in partnership with community over the past 16 years, is a model for how to create a safe and livable community.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support in making this City one of the greatest places in the County to live and work!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or issues surrounding law enforcement in University Place.

Respectfully,
Mike Blair, Police Chief
