Active Capital Improvement Projects

Capital Improvements Projects

It is the job of the Engineering Department to coordinate the improvement of local streets and sidewalks. The improvements enhance safety and increase quality of life in the University Place community.

Street projects are prioritized according to safety and are listed in the 6 year Transportation Improvement Plan approved by the City Council; state and/or Federal grant funding sometimes makes it possible for these projects to be constructed ahead of schedule.

Current projects are listed below.

Bridgeport Way West Phase 5

Construction of the Bridgeport Way West Phase 5 project is underway. The project includes construction of curb, gutter, sidewalks, bike lanes, storm drainage improvements as well as the addition of irrigation and lanscaping, street lights, and traffic signal as well as a new water main on Bridgeport Way West from 19th to 27th.

This project is funded through an FHWA grant and the water main portion being reimbursed by Tacoma Water.

27th Street Roadway Improvements

Construction of the 27th Street Roadway Improvements project is currently underway. Improvements include construction of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, bike lanes, storm drainage improvements, street lights, landscaping, a pedestrian crossing signal and a water main replacement on 27th St W from Bridgeport Way to Regents Blvd.
