Music, Merriment and Memories

With holiday music, dancing elves, winter princesses and holiday treats, University Place celebrated the lighting of its Christmas Tree in Village Square on Dec. 6. The festivities were capped off by a visit from Old Saint Nick himself.

Despite the rainy weather, a magical “snow” fell softly inside and out, as families and friends came out to enjoy one of U.P.’s most popular annual traditions. While warming themselves by the fireplace in the Civic Building atrium and waiting patiently to get a photo with Santa, participants enjoyed the music of pianist John Phillips on the grand piano.

Outside, student choirs from throughout the U.P. School District performed a variety of classic holiday tunes as everyone waited for Mayor Kent Keel to light up the tree.

The festivities also included children’s activities such as face painting and games. There was hot chocolate and other treats, and special promotional give-aways by businesses in the Village at Chambers Bay and the Green Firs Towne Shopping Center.

If you missed the fun (or were there and want to relive it!), be sure to check out the City’s Facebook page for lots of photos and videos that capture the magic of the evening.
