2019 Stormwater Management Plan Comment Period Open through February 19

The Washington State Department of Ecology requires an annual review and update to the Stormwater Management Plan, which focuses on seven major elements/components of our NPDES Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit.

On Jan. 22 the Draft 2019 Stormwater Management Plan was presented to the City Council for review; the plan is now open for public review and comment through Feb. 19.  At the Feb. 19 Council Meeting there will be opportunity for the public to comment on this plan, prior to adoption by the City Council.

Stormwater Management Program Seven Required Elements:

  1. Public Education and Outreach
  2. Public Involvement and Participation
  3. Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
  4. Controlling Runoff from New Development, Redevelopment and Construction Sites
  5. Pollution Prevention, Operation and Maintenance for Municipal Operations
  6. Monitoring
  7. Reporting

The 2019 Plan will include:

  • Continue public education and outreach opportunities through surveys, workshops, regional and statewide campaigns.
  • Increase availability and presence of stormwater information through a variety of media formats.
  • Update the stormwater system map, to keep current with what is out there.
  • Continue use of real time technology, GIS stormwater system mapping and maintenance tracking of the storm system for field staff.
  • Increase focus on commercial, private systems which tie in to public storm systems.
  • Continue updates to the links and information on the City NPDES webpages.
